Camp Woodside is a multi-site (all campuses together) overnight camp experience for 3rd-5th graders (grade entering next fall). Camp is designed to give kids a time of incredible fun, dynamic Bible teaching with intentional life application, and opportunities to connect with counselors who are regular Woodside Kids small group leaders. We will depart by bus early on Friday morning to Leonard, Michigan for a three day, two night, 7 meal, 5 session, jam-packed retreat experience designed exclusively for Woodside Kids at all campuses! And this year your kid’s registration includes a $5 Froggy Band to use at the camp snack store. On Sunday afternoon, families will come to Leonard to pick up their camper and the weekend will end with a huge family component and outdoor meal.
Your 3rd – 5th grader will experience:
Unforgettable cabins and small groups (formed by campus, age and gender), a giant pool, archery, team games, worship sessions studying significant kids from the Bible, great food, Bible memorization, kayak and canoes, and much more.
We will hold a ‘Cabin Meet Up’ event on Wednesday, August 8, 7-9pm, at the Troy Campus, in the Worship Center for families to meet the small group leaders, and to have some snacks, camp fires and team building games by cabins!
Can my child be in a group with their friend who is a different age?
It is our desire to group kids with students that they know from Weekend Woodside Kids Ministry and counselors from their campus who will continue to be a voice in their life. For this reason, we are inviting our regular Small Group Leaders to be part of Camp Woodside!
What do I do if my child has food allergies?
On the Camp Registration, be sure to let us know of any allergies. The Kitchen staff is very accommodating and we will want your child’s counselor and the camp medical staff to be aware.
What do I do if my child takes medication?
Make sure to clearly communicate on the registration form all medications that will be taken over the 3 days at Camp. At check-in, all medication should be clearly marked in a Zip-Lock bag: Child’s Name, Campus and Counselor. (counselor info will be given one week prior to camp). Over the counter medication for minor issues will all be available at Camp and if your child visits the First Aid station we would give you a call before handing this out.
Who is my child’s counselor?
Our Counselors this year at Camp will be the Small Group Leaders who are pouring into kids at each Woodside campus on a regular basis. It is our desire for your child’s faith to grow throughout the year, that is why it is important that we prioritize regular SGL’s as counselors. Please contact your Campus Director to hear who is planning to attend this year. We will hold a ‘Cabin Meet Up’ event on Wednesday, August 8, 7-9pm, at the Troy Campus, in The Garage area of the Student Center for families to meet the small group leaders, and to have some snacks, camp fires and team building games by cabins!
Can my child who is in student ministry attend as a volunteer?
We will allow some Junior Counselors to attend Camp Woodside if they meet the criteria above (they are a regular volunteer in Woodside Kids and are relationally building into kids on a regular basis) and are recommended by the Campus Woodside Kids Director.
Can the parents come and observe?
We will be posting pictures and a quick video on Friday evening and Saturday evening so you can be ‘part’ of the weekend. From Friday morning drop off, to Sunday pick up we encourage your child to be ‘all in’ to focus on their relationship with God and Others. For this reason, the weekend is not designed for parents to drop in. If a situation arises, please contact Woodside Staff member.
What do we need to pack?
Clothes for 3 days, toiletries, pen, Bible, shower towel, swim towel and bedding. A full list will be sent via email prior to Camp.
Can my child bring their cell phone?
We certainly live in an age of connectivity. However, because this camp is only 3 days we ask that no Woodside Kids have phones or devices that connect to Wi-Fi in any way. Each parent will have the cell phone numbers to their child’s counselor and Woodside Campus staff if a quick phone call is needed.
Tell me more about the accommodations.
Echo Grove has a few different styles of housing. Most importantly kids will be grouped by gender and campus with two or more CPP (Child Protection Program) adults in each cabin. Cabins have bunk beds and bathrooms with individual shower stalls.
What are the arrival and departure times?
Check with your Campus for specific information regarding Friday departure. But the majority of kids will be dropped off at the Troy Campus at 8am on Friday, August 10th.
On Sunday, August 12 at 2pm we will end Camp Woodside with a big family component. Your family is invited to join us at 2pm for our closing Family Celebration followed by an Ice Cream Social. After that is done, you will take your camper home.
Can my child arrive late/leave early?
Due to the focused time at Camp, it is our desire for counselors and kids to attend the entire duration of Camp Woodside.
