Royal Oak

Pastors & Staff

Jon Morales

  • Position Royal Oak Campus Pastor

After becoming a Christian at age 18, Jon felt called to pastoral ministry—a passion that has only increased through the years. Jon met and married his wife Anna in New York City in 1999. They have four children: Rayne, Jett, Piper, and Saylor. They also have the privilege of caring for Jon’s aging mother. Jon graduated from New York University with a bachelor of arts, from Reformed Theological Seminary with a masters in biblical studies, and from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a PhD in New Testament studies. Jon enjoys thinking about the Word of God, looking into his wife’s blue eyes, seeing people grow in worship of Jesus Christ, and eating chicken wings with his children (the ones who like chicken wings).

John Martineau
  • Position Discipleship Pastor

John is originally from south Mississippi.  He accepted Christ at the age of 10, grew up faithfully attending church, and served a few local churches in the area. At  21, he felt led to full time vocational ministry and began his academic pursuit in the area of worship ministry.  He holds both a B.A. and M.A. in Church Music.  He met his wife Stacy while in seminary and after their marriage in 1994, they moved from Tulsa, OK to Royal Oak, MI. John served in full time worship pastoral ministry almost 22 years before his current position with Woodside of Royal Oak.  They have three outstanding children:  Lunden, Luke, and Jack.  John would say he has too many hobbies, but his favorites are camping and the outdoors, golf, fishing, and has strong affection for smoking BBQ.  Along with his hobbies, he also loves just to be home with his family and hanging out.

Tyson Lucas

  • Position Royal Oak Kids Director

Tyson grew up in rural eastern Pennsylvania and was active since youth in the church his parents attended. After high school Tyson jumped between college and work until he felt God calling him into the mission field and in 2009 moved away from his family to Detroit. Using his passion for families and kids Tyson served the community for several years and eventually joined the Woodside family in 2013. As the Kid’s Director at Royal Oak Tyson has a passion for teaching the Bible and watching kids grow in their relationship with Jesus. Tyson is also continuing his education through Moody Bible Institute and enjoys playing soccer and volleyball.

Derek Banker

  • Position Royal Oak Student Ministries Director

Before becoming Student Ministry Director at Royal Oak, he served for almost three years at our Farmington Hills campus as the Kids Director. He and his wife Brittany have been married since 2006. They have two kids, Tavin and Selah. Derek’s heart is for kids and their families to truly know Jesus and His love for them.

Matt Wagner

  • Position Worship Pastor

Matt grew up on the mission field in the Dominican Republic, but is originally from North Carolina.  He was saved at the age of 20 and moved up to Michigan in 2010, where he felt he call to pastoral ministry through music.  Matt and his wife Brooke have been married since 2013 and have two children:  Isaiah, and Isabella.  Matt graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor’s degree in Theological Studies and from the Recording Connection as a certified audio engineer. He has a passion for the Word of God and seeing Christ transform people’s lives through it.  Matt loves music, theology, photography, graphic design, disc golf, playing with his kids, and discovering and cooking delicious food with his wife Brooke.
