“Honor your father and your mother…” Exodus 20:12
My Dad and Mom are the best!
A couple years ago my parents moved to Michigan to be closer to their kids and grandkids. I was so excited to have my parents closer to me after 20 years of only seeing them on Christmas and family vacations during the summer.
My parents hold a special place in my heart because I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. They raised me, fed me, and invested so much of their own lives to shape me into the person I am today.
They aren’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination but I’m so thankful I get to spend time with them each week. I am grateful that we get to share life together.
This week, we will focus on our parents. We live in a world where the enemy wants to destroy the concept of family, but God’s design for us is to take time to nurture this powerful construct. Yet, the foundation of any family begins with Dad and Mom.
God uniquely placed our parents into our lives. This is one of the many reasons that the way we interact and treat them matters.
For some of us, just thinking about our parents brings feelings of joy. For others, even spending a moment considering your parents is very difficult.
As you reflect upon Exodus 20:12, invite the Spirit of God to speak into you the joy and the pain of your experience.
Thank you for my parents, Father. Holy Spirit, I ask that you will reveal to me how I can respond to the joys and pain of my relationships. Only you can bring about peace and joy in my relationship with my Dad and Mom. Amen
