Christmas through Fresh Eyes Week 2- Day 5

Lynn Bettes Christmas Through Fresh Eyes Devotional

“Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew [1:20]b-21

In the world today we are constantly bombarded with all kinds of news: murders, suicide, kidnapping, sex trafficking, terrorism, racism, and political disagreements. All this bad news can tend to leave us feeling overwhelmed and anxious.

In our passage today we can see that all news is not bad or fake. Some news can be overwhelming wonderful. In Matthew 1, Joseph learned that his fiancé Mary was pregnant, and the baby was not his. When he first heard this news, Joseph received it as bad news and was overwhelmed with fear. It wasn’t until the angel appeared and told him of God’s plan and that he didn’t need to be afraid. God was doing something amazing. Mary was going to give birth to Jesus, and he was going to save his people from their sins! This is the greatest news of all time!

Jesus has come to save us from our sin. The proper response to this news is to believe it (John [1:12]) and trust in the saving work of Jesus. Having believed, you will be eager to share this great news with others (1 Peter [3:15]). This Christmas season seek to drown out the negative news of the world with the greatest news ever. Jesus Saves!

Thank you, God for the Good News of Jesus. Thank you for forgiving my sin. Help me to share this Good News with those you have placed in my life. Amen.
