“And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.” Isaiah 25:7-8
Jesus’ salvation swallows up our fears.
In hindsight, the things that might appear scary at first often turn out to not be so bad. For example, think of the experience of young children meeting Santa at the mall. We have probably all watched a child being placed on Santa’s lap by parents who anticipated a photo worthy of grandma’s refrigerator. What was captured, however, was the face of fear and panic!
Though we age and mature, fear is a constant threat, and God wants to address it! Fear of rejection, failure, and death are like a veil that keeps us from seeing properly.
Isaiah tells us that the salvation we receive in Christ will swallow up fear. Our identity as children of the almighty God shifts away our focus upon things that appear to threaten us to the promises of God that secure us. The Bible says that he will swallow up death forever, and that God will wipe away all our tears.
What are the fears in your life that you need Jesus to conquer?
Jesus, I don’t want to live in fear, especially when you promise breakthrough and freedom for my life. Guide me, Holy Spirit, from a place of knowing of these truths into a place of living out these truths. Make me more aware of the reality that supersedes all fear. Amen.
