“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians [13:13]
Do you love the body of Christ?
In Henry Drummond’s book, “The Greatest Thing in the World,” he explains how love is the supreme good and the primary characteristic of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In Drummond’s exposition of 1 Corinthians 13 he says, “Paul begins by contrasting love with other things that men in those days thought much of. I shall not attempt to go over those things in detail. Their inferiority is already obvious.” (17)
Many of us think, do, and feel many things for the body of Christ, but real, true authentic love isn’t something that you see every day. When we do encounter real love within the body of Christ, it changes everything! When you know someone has sacrificed for you, it changes everything! When you receive something from someone who knows you can’t pay them back, it changes everything!
Father, please reveal to us the ways that our love has grown cold. Grant each of us a fresh encounter with the love that You have lavished upon us through Jesus Christ. May the body of Christ be the shining example in the world of what selfless and authentic love looks like. Teach us how to truly follow Christ’s example and take His words seriously when he says that “greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” Ignite our love for Your Church, God! Amen.
