“Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:2
As a young Christian, I wanted all my friends to know about Christ, but I was often intimidated about how to defend my faith. I would think, “What if I don’t say the right words, or someone laughs at my beliefs?” Apologetics and evangelism were not my strengths and I often felt that I wasn’t competent enough to tell others about my faith. The enemy would love the church to believe that they can’t share their faith without being gifted or skilled.
Maybe you feel that way. Remember, though, the call to defend your faith happens in the context of a life well-lived. When we give ourselves up for others, risking our reputations, comfort, and positions to show them love and share the Gospel, we love as Christ loved.
Walking in love is a witness to our neighbors. The light of Christ shines through us when we simply love others, with no strings attached. Loving others ahead of our schedules and our goals for the day shows our neighbors a love that is drawn not from ourselves but from a far greater well. And it is that love that becomes a light to others.
Jesus, thank You for the love You showed us when You gave Yourself up for us. May we love others with that heart today. May You fill us with strength and love to be the light to those who don’t know You yet. Amen.
