“But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, ‘Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.’” Ephesian [5:13]-14
It probably wouldn’t surprise you to learn that missionaries around the world are always trying new ways to talk to reach more people with the message of salvation in Jesus. What may surprise you is the extent to which some of these efforts go.
There are men and women around the world, who will go so far as to adopt the religious practices of the culture they’re trying to reach: reading their holy books devotionally, praying in their temples, and following their ritualistic practices of food and dress.
While every message should be contextualized to the audience, there reaches a point where you don’t have a message anymore, because you are the same as the people you’re communicating to. This is not God’s method of mission. While Jesus took on flesh and dwelt among us, He did not set aside His divinity. He came as a light in the darkness. He came to live differently and talk differently so we might believe there is a different kind of kingdom – His kingdom – worth living in.
He gives us the same call, by His Spirit that’s at work within us; Christians live as light, shining so brightly it wakes up those sleeping in the dark. How is God calling you to live as light today?
Jesus, You are the light of the world. Thank You for saving me; thank You for transferring me from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of Your glorious light. Teach me how to live in that light today. Amen.
