“Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesian [5:17]
Did you know that God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life?
I’ve uttered that phrase hundreds, perhaps thousands, of times when beginning a spiritual conversation using Cru’s Four Spiritual Laws. It’s a phrase that, undefined, conjures up all the unanswered questions we wrestle on a daily. Is this the right job for me? Is this really happiness? Do I need to go to college? Does God want us to date?
When we think of God’s will, we tend to put it into the context of very specific, direct applications, but that is not how the Bible typically speaks of God’s will. God’s “plan for the fullness of time [is] to unite all things in [Christ], things in heaven and things on earth.”
You can tell someone confidently that God has a plan for their life because God does. He plans to glorify Himself by pouring His grace upon sinners and wiping out sin. That’s an amazing plan, but it doesn’t end there. His will is then to work in the lives of those redeemed sinners in such a way that He changes the world as He changes them to be more like Him.
That is God’s plan for your life. What are you going to do about it?
God, thank You for sending Jesus to die for me. Thank You for making a new way of living possible through his sacrifice. Teach me to live and speak in accordance with Your eternal plan, knowing that it is for my best, and for Your glory. Amen.
