Community in Action Week 4-Day 2

Lynn Bettes Community in Action Devotional

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” Romans 13:1

Authority is a gift from our Creator for the purpose of our thriving.
Like a greenhouse, authority in our lives provides a protective environment in which we can experience growth and produce fruit. Satan’s intended purpose for our lives is to bring destruction and death. God has sovereignly provided people and systems in our lives that deflect Satan’s efforts and insulate us from the sometimes-extreme conditions that come with living in a fallen world.

Think of the authority that is in your life. Our government and laws exist for the purpose of protecting a harmonious community. Our employer has provided supervisors, policies, and procedures to protect the team while promoting productivity. God designed the family with an authority system that allows the members to thrive and develop.

Today, how can you express your gratitude to the authorities in your life? Commit to extending a word of encouragement to a leader. Repent of any blatant disregard for a law or policy that has been established for your good. Choose now to view your authority as a gift from God that is valued and honored.

Father, I am prone to resist authority and delight in doing things “my way.” Change my heart so that I see my leaders as Your gift to me. Amen.

Romans 13:1-7
