Community in Action Week 4-Day 3

Lynn Bettes Community in Action Devotional

“However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.” Ephesians [5:33]

God provides clear directives to those who are married that will address the natural defect of each role.

The husband has been given the responsibility of leadership and protection for the wife. God designed the husband to guide the wife and absorb the blows that naturally come to the leader. But with leadership comes a tendency to control or be self-serving. In divine wisdom, God instructs the husband to love and cherish his wife.

The wife is described as a “helper” to the husband, endowed with incredible insight, beauty, and creativity. But, the wife will be the first to see the shortcomings of her husband. In divine wisdom, God instructs the wife to respect her husband.

In this beautiful cooperative, God provides an environment for the wife to fully blossom in her impact on the family and the world, and an environment for the husband to be encouraged and inspired to servant-leadership as he encounters the difficulties of the world.

If you are married, consider if you faithfully communicate the love or respect that God calls you to. For those not married, celebrate the wisdom of God as seen in the directives for the marriage relationship. The Spirit of God enables us to demonstrate the love and respect that is needed in healthy relationships.

Father, thank You for wisely designing the marriage relationship. Empower me to fulfill Your desire for honoring others in the role that You have placed me. Strengthen the marriages of those around me. Amen.

Colossians [3:12]-25
