“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.” Ephesians [6:10]
One of the realities of following Jesus is that there is a spiritual battle raging. These battles may be against the desires of the flesh or against the schemes of Satan’s forces. When the spiritual battles come, there is no need to feel overwhelmed. Neither should you approach them with the self-confidence of a comic superhero.
Hollywood movies do an excellent job portraying stories of super-powered individuals that single handedly take on villains or armies that are more numerous and more heavily resourced. In the span of about 2 hours, the superhero can rise above all adversity and defeat their enemy.
When faced with reality of spiritual battle you may be tempted to say to yourself “I got this”, or you may think that you can be the hero all by yourself. Resist the temptation to battle alone. The verse today reminds us that the strength to overcome the battle doesn’t rest in ourselves. The power and strength are found in the Lord and the strength of his might. We have everything we need to stand strong in Christ.
When faced with a spiritual battle, may your posture change from trying to battle in your own strength and power to standing strong in the strength of the Lord.
Dear Lord, thank You for being my strength in the battle. Forgive me for the times that I battled in my own strength. When faced with battles in the future help me to be strong in You. Amen.
