“…as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.” Ephesians [1:10]
Those two words change everything. To be “in” something means that my reality is now shaped by the thing I am in. For instance, if I take a trip on an airplane then once I am “in” the plane, what becomes true of the plane becomes true of me. If the plane is flying in the sky, then I am flying in the sky. If the plane is in Chicago, then I am in Chicago.
When I become a follower of Jesus, Scripture says that I am now “in Christ.” My reality is now changed and what is true of Him becomes true for me. In Ephesians 1 Paul uses the phrase “In Christ” (or its derivatives) over a dozen times as he seeks to express all that God has blessed us with in Christ. But not only that, Paul points to the fact that according to God’s plan, one day everything in heaven and earth will be united “in Him.”
So, be encouraged today, that in Christ God has lavished His grace upon you, so that you can begin to experience now what will be true for all eternity. May that reminder encourage you to live in that reality no matter where the Lord leads you today.
Father, thank You that in Jesus You have poured out Your incredible spiritual blessings upon me. Help me to trust that what is true of Jesus is what defines my life more than any other message I hear today. Let that motivate me to live for Your Glory today. Amen.
