“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called…” Ephesians 4:1
“For [the Gospel] is a doctrine not of the tongue but of life…But [doctrine] must enter our heart and pass into our daily living, and so transform us into itself that it may not be unfruitful for us.” – John Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion, 3.6.4
As we close this week, remember that all of the time we have spent reflecting on God’s Word is meant to impact how we live. The gracious blessings of God are meant to not just remain in our heads or even our hearts, but they are meant to impact the very way we live our lives. We spend time learning and reflecting on God’s Word in order to more deeply believe in the God whom it reveals. But true belief will always work itself out into action. It will result in a life lived in and for the Gospel.
Take some time today to think about what God has been teaching you through your time in His Word and then take some time to think about how that is impacting your life. What is God calling you to do with what He’s shown you. What changes might He be asking you to make?
May the grace of God and the blessings of His Word continue to empower you to live a life worthy of the calling to which He has called you!
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word which reveals to me the blessings I have in Christ. Lord, let me not just be a hearer of Your word, but help me to live according to it and to obey You in all areas of my life. Amen.
