“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying…” Revelation [1:10]
The moment that Jesus speaks to John could not have come at a better time. The Apostle John was exiled on the island of Patmos because of the anti-Christian persecution under Domitian, the Roman Emperor.
John was cut off from Christian fellowship and he was powerless to help the Church as it endured political and cultural pressure. The world around him must have seemed absolutely chaotic. He may have even thought, “Where is Jesus? Why isn’t He doing anything?”
In the right time and in the right way Jesus appeared, and His voice was heard above the chaos. Jesus’ words encouraged John and reminded him that God is in control. God has a plan and somehow our lives fit into that plan.
Are you in a place where you desperately need God to speak? Do you need to hear words of encouragement? Remember that God has spoken through His word. Contained in the Bible are His promises that can bring us peace. God continues to speak to us through the Holy Spirit, but we must make space in our lives to listen.
Father in Heaven, thank You for giving me Your words through the Bible and thank You for the Holy Spirit. Please Lord, help me to make space in my life to listen to You. Help me to hear You above the noise of my life. Amen.
