“Fear not, I am the first and the last, the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.” Revelation [1:17]b-18
What if you could see into the future and saw that the Detroit Lions would be the Super Bowl LIV champions? Wouldn’t that be amazing? Knowing the outcome of the season would allow you to watch every game peacefully knowing that in the end they win. Even if they happen to lose several games in a row. You might be tempted to think, “oh no–there they go again”, but you know everything is going to end just fine.
In an even greater way, Jesus promises the Church that in the end He wins. And because believers know that Jesus wins, we can endure the challenges and trials of today. He has overcome, and the Church is an unstoppable force that will not be defeated. Throughout history it has appeared that the Church would be defeated, whether from corruption within or persecution from the world. But each time, Jesus has stepped in and saved His Bride and He will continue to do so until He returns.
Do you feel defeated today? Remember the moment Jesus seemed defeated. For three days Jesus laid in the grave and the world counted Him dead. But Jesus was not defeated in death – He defeated death and is now alive. That same resurrection power lives in you!
My great and mighty Lord, forgive me for feeling defeated. Help remind me today that You have overcome the world, and help me today to live in the power of Your resurrection. Amen.
