“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.” Revelation 2:7
Have you ever found yourself at a coffee shop, listening in on a neighboring conversation?
I am notorious for totally missing what might be said at my own table because my ears are tuned in to others around me. How many times have we gleaned something from a conversation that was not initially intended for our ears, but it made an impact on us?
In Revelation, we get a front row seat to hear God’s charge to the Ephesian church. For those of us listening in, we may think we have it easy. But this ease only lasts momentarily as God turns the conversation to us who hear. The Spirit’s words were not just meant for the Ephesians, but for anyone listening.
God charges all of us to remember our fallen past, repent of our sin, and return to our first love. Jesus, the ultimate conquering King, made it possible for us to be conquerors through His shed blood on the cross. When we choose to believe in Jesus, His death, and resurrection, we become conquerors and have access to eternal life.
Holy Spirit, let my ears be attentive to Your words. Ultimate conquering King, You are the only one who can give the gift of eternal life. Help me to remember where I have fallen, draw me to repentance, and help me to return to You. I am so grateful for Your gift of eternal life. Amen.
