“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy [2:15]
God’s Word reveals that diligence is necessary to faithfully learn and live out His Truth.
We have two children who each received a pair of in-line skates at about the same time. Both eagerly rushed outside to experience the fun. They both soon discovered that skating was harder than it looked. Their responses were vastly different. One quickly gave up and never learned to enjoy skating. The other child kept working at it, until she could spin around the neighborhood with complete confidence.
When Jesus instructed the Pergamum church to hold fast to His name (Rev. [2:13]-17), he was calling them to diligence and discipline. It would require strength, courage, and dedication to continue in the things they learned from the Apostles. All believers have been called to “grow in Christ” which involves both the Holy Spirit’s transforming work and the believer’s faithfulness to disciplines like prayer and study.
Are you putting forth the effort that continued progress requires? Reading His Word carefully and applying it thoughtfully will be used by the Spirit of God to form His character in you. Learning and growing is a lengthy journey. In fact, it will continue until we see Jesus face to face! Keep at it!
Father, thank You for granting me the energy to learn and grow through the Spirit who lives within me. Keep me from any distraction or discouragement that may slow my progress of knowing You more. May I bring You glory today. Amen.
