“To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.” Revelation [2:17]
Believers are given the assurance from Jesus that faithfulness will always be rewarded by Him.
Although the specific rewards mentioned here are a bit obscure, there are promised rewards for those who remain faithful to Christ in the face of adversity and opposition. The manna may reference our spiritual provision and the white stone may hint to our identity that is secured and given by Christ Himself. Undoubtedly, the church is assured that Jesus will generously honor those who are faithful.
In the employment experience of most people, the regular paycheck motivates their work during the most difficult days. James 5:4 warns against the terrible injustice of an employer failing to pay the workers what was owed. There is no injustice with Jesus. He promises to reward those who conquer in His name by remaining faithful during adversity.
When you find yourself weary in your faithfulness, remember the promise that Christ will generously provide for and honor those who follow Him. The Apostle Paul assures us that “you know from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you are serving the Lord Christ” (Col. [3:24]). He always sees and rewards those who faithfully follow Him.
Father, strengthen me in my exhaustion. Increase my confidence in the rewards You have for me that will far outweigh any of the challenges I face. Amen.
