“Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God.” Revelation 3:2
You know the sick feeling of when you wake up and realize that your alarm did not go off. You slept through that important business meeting, or you missed your plane flight. Your sleeping caused you to miss out on something huge.
In our text this morning, Jesus warns the church of Sardis to wake up from the dead works that they are doing. Jesus calls them to wake up and to strengthen what remains and is about to die. He is giving the church a warning that they are dying, and they are going to miss out on eternal rewards. They need to wake up and rise from their slumber.
Is there an area of your life where God is revealing to you that you need to wake up from your slumber of death? Maybe you have never surrendered your life to Christ. Maybe right now you are headed toward eternal death and need to wake up and surrender your life to Christ.
Maybe you are living in sin and you have fallen asleep to the point of death to the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Wake up today and turn back to Christ and ask Him for forgiveness.
Heavenly Father, wake me up from my dead slumber. God, show me if I think I am alive but am really dead in the world I live in. Wake me up to who You are and what it means to be surrendered to You. Help me to wake up and live! Amen.
