“Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.” Revelation 3:4
In our text today, Jesus promises to walk with the worthy.
The Navy SEALs are an elite group of men. The training and testing that is required to be a Navy SEAL is rigorous and exhausting. Statistics say that out of all the men who decide to enter into the Navy SEAL training program (approximately 20,000 people each year), only about 6% or 1,200 of SEAL applicants meet the requirements and make it through. The ones who make it through prove that they are worthy to walk into battle as a Navy SEAL.
Jesus provides encouragement to the church of Sardis. He looks past the death of those who seem to be alive and sees those who have made it through unsoiled. He speaks to those who have continued to serve God faithfully. Jesus says, “They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy”.
This text should be a great challenge for us, and a great encouragement. May we strive to be those who are considered worthy, and to be like those who were walking faithfully in Sardis. This should be an encouragement that God is going to honor this in your life.
Heavenly Father, make me a person who lives worthy for You! God, give me the strength to press on in the midst of a dead society, and be seen as holy, spotless, and blameless in Your sight. Amen.
