Identity Crisis Week 1- Day 3

Lynn Bettes Identity Crisis Devotional

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will…” Ephesians 1:7-9

I like coffee. I like coffee even more when I buy it at a local coffee shop. But the coffee that I enjoy the most is when I get to order a coffee and slap that plastic Christmas gift card onto the counter! The price goes from $4.35 to zero dollars and zero cents. Nothing comes out of my pocket or my account. When you redeem that gift card, you pay nothing. While this may be true for you, the reality is the gift card you slapped on the counter did cost someone something. Someone had to “pay” the cost.

As believers, we praise Jesus for redeeming us by paying for our sins on the cross. There is nothing we can pay to earn our salvation. However, it can be so easy to forget this biblical truth. Instead of praising Jesus for paying our ransom, we get distracted. Those distractions may range from everyday worries to the pace of our calendars. Yet we must never forget the redemption that cost us nothing, actually cost Jesus His life!
We must remember the incredible gift of salvation that we have in Jesus!

Father in Heaven, there are so many times that anxiousness, worry, and distractions get in the way of my focus on the freedom I have in Christ Jesus. Today, help me to focus on the price that was paid, but also help me continually praise Jesus for the cross. Amen.
