“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians [1:13]-14
Tender spiritual conversations between a parent and a child are heartwarming—and they often cause us to consider deep realities of our faith.
“Momma, did you know that I asked Jesus into my heart?”, said the little girl as she blinked up at her Mom. “I was by my bed and I prayed to Jesus to come into my heart and be my Lord. It was a really long time ago when I had a green shirt.”
A million thoughts ran through the mother’s mind. Did her daughter truly understand? Does she really know Jesus as her Savior? What should happen next? And what green shirt is she talking about? “That is really exciting, honey! Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
Her daughter’s eyes grew large as she leaned closer and whispered, “Because, I am not sure, but sometimes I think he may want to jump out!”
Today, take a few moments to thank God for child-like faith. Praise God for the truth that Jesus is not going to jump out—even if our children believe that He might. How can we be sure? We have been forever sealed by the Holy Spirit.
Heavenly Father, sometimes you feel so close, and other times I feel like the little girl who is afraid You have jumped out. I’m so thankful for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
