“For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility.” Ephesians [2:14]
How can I have peace in this world?
It’s a question that people around the world consider each and every day. Much of life is spent in a pursuit of what can give true and lasting peace and fulfillment.
In today’s text, the apostle Paul gives the answer to this desperate longing. Our peace is not found in external circumstances. It is not found in the conditions of our world. It is only found in Jesus Christ! Jesus became our peace by reconciling us from being enemies of God. Through Jesus we have become children of God.
God has forgiven us for so much that we have no right not to seek reconciliation with others; forgiving them as Christ has forgiven us. We must become reconciled with others because God has reconciled us.
Is there a relationship in your life that needs reconciliation? Are you holding grudges? Are you withholding forgiveness? Truth is, we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s perfect glory (Rom. [3:23]). Yet, in Christ, we were given forgiveness. Therefore, believers are called to forgive others!
Heavenly Father examine my heart today. Bring to mind anyone in my life who I am harboring resentment for, or holding grudges against, and give me a desire to pursue peace. Forgive me for holding onto things I shouldn’t. Amen.
