“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1
The Apostle Paul begins this popular text with the word “therefore”, which means that we must connect this passage to what has been previously written. What we find in Romans 4 is the account of Abraham, who was not justified or made right with God by his work—but by faith.
Chapter 5 picks up on this theme. Paul tells the faithful in Rome how their standing with God has changed because of their faith. Not because of anything they’ve done, but by God’s grace. They now have peace with God through faith in Christ.
This is a tremendous gift! Because in our human relationships, we often wrong a loved one. There is often division and tension in our relationships. God knows this about our hearts. He knows that we need forgiveness. All are separated from God because of sin, yet through faith in Jesus we can have peace with God.
Do you have peace with God? Have you repented of your sins? Have you believed the Gospel? Have you put your faith in His forgiveness? Have you surrendered your life to Him? Only in a relationship with Jesus, can you truly walk in peace with God and with others.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus. Thank You for making Christ Himself the way to experience unity and peace. I am humbled by Your grace for me. Help me to continually find my peace in You alone. Amen.
