“If then you have been raised with Christ seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1
What is one thing you could get right now that would make you happy?
It seems like every Prime Day, Black Friday, or Cyber Monday, I fall into the same trap of believing there is one thing that will make me happy. It’s out there, somewhere, I’m convinced of it. So, I spend every spare minute, searching for the perfect deal on the perfect thing I didn’t know I wanted, but is now the absolute key to my eternal happiness. It’s crazy, I know.
The irony of my deal-search is that it hardly ever produces a find worth buying, and it inevitably ruins my day, making me profoundly less happy as I obsess over things, and try to find space in my budget to purchase them.
Our happiness can’t be bought, because our life is not found on this earth; it is seated at the right hand of God. Therefore, our pursuit of happiness, our ambitions and our prayers, should be focused on eternity, on Christ, where our lives are hidden and will one day be revealed.
Don’t waste your life seeking moments of happiness, pray and pursue the joy that is yours in Christ.
Jesus, help me believe that my life and hope is held securely with You in Heaven. Teach me to approach this life as if it is a passing picture, dimly lit of the true hope and joy You hold secure for me that will be revealed in the last day. Amen.
