“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad…” Matthew [5:10]-12
Do you ever face harsh words for your faith in Christ? Jesus told his followers that it should be expected. According to Jesus, these things are not an option—but a part of living for Him in the world in which He has placed us. When you live with your heart and mind glorifying Him you will find yourself in places where your actions, decisions, and morals are not aligned with the world around you.
The world is dead set against the Kingdom of God because it is under the rule of Satan—the ruler of this present world. His goal and mission is attack and to destroy the Kingdom of God! He desires that all Christ-followers feel the pressure and tension of trying to stand up for Him in their life. What’s amazing is that Jesus understands this reality. And He desires that His followers understand that this is a reason to be happy. What? That sounds crazy! How can we see persecution as something in which to rejoice? Jesus explains that persecution validates our standing as His true followers.
Be encouraged that any attack you are facing from the world for your faith is confirmation that you are following Jesus and His Kingdom. Rejoice!
God, as your child, I am not living in a world that is for me—but against me. Encourage and remind me of my true identity in whatever attack I am facing. Give me the courage to stand for You each day. Amen.
