“For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” Mark [8:35]-36
We all want God to speak to us. We all want God to bless us. However, we typically want God to do these things on our terms.
When God calls someone, He seeks repentance and belief and sacrifice. He desires to bring change to our lives. Accepting His call on our lives doesn’t just impact where we spend eternity. It changes how we live now. And we’re called to live right and to love right. Sure, we’ll sacrifice, but hopefully not too much. We’re willing to change, but hopefully not too dramatically. Perhaps there’s an easier way? Maybe it won’t cost so much? Honestly, how is this ‘losing your life for the gospel’ going?
As he tempted Jesus, the enemy would love to have us unknowingly trying to gain the world. It’s such an easy, entertaining distraction. Sometimes I like to ask myself, “What am I changing for Jesus?” As followers of Christ, we are free from the things of this world and instead we get to live for what the Lord values.
When we live in the Kingdom of God, our identity is not in what we do, not in what we have, but in who we are in Christ.
Father God, I know you’ve called me. Help me to live open-handed in order for you to use my life for your glory and for my good. Amen.
