“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts [2:42]
The year was 1991. The setting was Super Bowl XXV. The Buffalo Bills were losing by a single point to the New York Giants. With four seconds left on the clock, the kicker set up to kick the game winning field goal. Instead of becoming Super Bowl champions, the kick went wide right. The phrase “wide right” is still used to define the entire game. This game reminds us that for any team to win a championship, they cannot neglect any aspect of the game.
Have you ever considered what it would look like to devote yourself to the Bible in all areas of your life? This is an opportunity for the Word to permeate every area of life. It should impact the way you think and talk on the way to school or work. The Bible should impact the way we interact in our homes. The Word of God should impact what we discuss while eating dinner, and what we think about before we go to bed.
Are there areas in your life where you haven’t allowed God’s Word? Have you set yourself up for a “wide right” moment? Today is the perfect opportunity to allow the Lord’s truth to become foundational in a way that not only impacts you but also makes an impact upon those around you.
Lord, continue to give me a hunger to read the truth of your Word. I know that we all have areas where we are strong and areas where we are weak. I want to be sure that my commitment to your Word is an area of strength. Please give me the perseverance to continue to be faithful in your Word. Amen
