“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” Romans 12:1
When I lived as a missionary, I was dependent on God providing my income through the generosity of other believers. During this season, I would regularly have meetings with believers where I shared my financial needs. I asked them to partner with me in ministry through their giving. Time and again I was surprised at how some of my friends who had the least gave the most generously.
Generosity is about so much more than how much we have to give. Rather, it’s about how we give what we have.
Perhaps, as we talked about generosity in this weekend’s message you thought that’s not for you, at least for now. Maybe someday, you think, when you have a couple million dollars in your bank account, you can be generous. But not today when you’re surviving on Ramen.
Truth is, God has blessed you with resources to be deployed for his kingdom. Maybe it’s adjusting your budget so you can find a few dollars a week to give. Maybe it’s your time, offered to people who need you. Maybe it’s your talent, used to build others up. Whatever your stage in life, generosity isn’t for some day, God has called you and equipped you for generosity today.
Lord God, thank you for equipping me to live generously. Show me how I can use what You have given me to bless others and to glorify You. Amen.
