“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Hebrews [10:24]-25
Do you think about the Sunday morning church gathering during the week?
As a kid, I had a lot of friends in the church who did not attend my school. For years, they were the only positive peer influence I had in my life. My friends at school came from families with a different set of values, while my friends at church had similar moral values. I didn’t know it at the time, but my Sunday buddies were stirring me up to love and do good works. My school friends were not.
We are influenced by the people we hang out with and we can be an influence on them. For better or for worse.
When the church meets on Sunday mornings for worship, or in a group during the week in someone’s home, we are called to be an encouragement to one another. We have an opportunity to positively influence other people’s lives. We get to breathe life into each other’s worlds and lift each other up through prayer, sharing faith stories, and serving each other.
God has given us the gift of the church. When we neglect to meet with our church family, we are robbing ourselves of a chance to be encouraged and a chance to encourage others. Meeting together with the family of God is a priority!
God, thank you for the church. Help me to be an encouragement to my brothers and sisters and give me a hunger to worship alongside of them as a way of life. Amen
