“For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.” Ephesians [2:18]
All three persons of the Trinity are involved in the work of reconciliation. Let’s think today about the involvement of God the Father. It was the love of the Father that initiated the plan to tear down the barrier of sin that kept us from Him (1 John 3:1). Because He loved us, He sent His Son, Jesus to redeem us from the bondage of sin.
I was recently told the story of the CEO of Fiat Chrysler, the late Sergio Marchionne. After driving one of the vehicles, he told one of his managers that he would love to have the car in a convertible. “It doesn’t come as a convertible,” he was told. “Make it a convertible,” Marchionne responded.
The appropriate people were charged with the task. In a few short weeks, Sergio was driving the convertible!
Being the CEO, he could make it happen. As another company states in their slogan, “We can do that—we ARE the factory.”
God the Father expressed His supreme power and perfect wisdom to initiate a plan to reunite His image bearers (you and me) back to Himself in a way that maintained perfect justice. And being reconciled with the Father, through Jesus Christ the Son, we are called to express this reconciliation to others.
Father, you have overcome my sin. Transform me with your love so that I can love others like you have loved me. Empower me to show your love even when it is difficult. Amen.
