“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
For the follower of Jesus, this verse provides the promise and the purpose for our days on this earth.
The promise is earth-shattering: God’s Spirit will reside on those who have placed their faith in Jesus. No longer will His Spirit come and go in the empowerment of certain individuals, as was experienced previously. Instead, God would reside through the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. And a primary purpose of this indwelling is to empower the stories they tell of how Jesus has changed their lives!
What has Jesus done in your life? Take some time to identify the difference He has made. What circumstances did He provide that led you to accept His salvation? What changes has He performed in your life? When have you seen the evidence of His work in your life? Remembering this work of God will prepare you to “witness” or tell others of the work of Jesus. God has given you a story to tell, and Jesus promised to supernaturally empower your story to convince others of who He is.
Pray right now that God will give you the opportunity today to tell someone about something God has done in your life.
Father in Heaven, You have promised that my story of Your work in my life will be empowered as I share it. Cause me to notice when I have an opportunity to tell someone about You today, and grant me the courage to tell the story. Amen.
