“But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life.” 2 Corinthians [2:14]-16
What a privilege we have been given to share the stories of God’s work in our lives—spreading the fragrance of knowing Him everywhere!
There is something interesting about fragrance. With many smells, some people love it, while others despise it. I have a friend who often has incense burning in his house. To him, the incense provides a homey and calming feel to his evening after a long day of work. When I visit, I find the fragrance distracting and a bit annoying!
As we tell the stories of God’s work in our lives, people will respond differently. Some will not understand them, and may even react harshly to them. Others will be drawn to our stories, finding hope and clarity about God’s love, grace, and power. Regardless, Christ always provides “triumph”. We give glory to Him when we allow the Holy Spirit to prompt the story-telling of His Good News. This is the ultimate “win”—glorifying God!
Can you think of times when your faith-story was eagerly received? Or harshly rejected?
Father in Heaven, thank You for giving me Your words through the Bible and thank You for the Holy Spirit. Please Lord, help me to make space in my life to listen to You. Help me to hear You above the noise of my life. Amen.
