“…I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6
God’s intention is that the witness of His salvation would spread from His people to the nations of the world.
This has always been His desire. The Jewish people were given this mission through the prophet Isaiah. The earthly mission of Jesus would have this focus, as announced by Simeon to the parents of their newborn son (Luke [2:32]). Jesus affirmed this global focus when He commissioned the Church to witness to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8). How can we witness to the end of the earth/the nations?
Build relationships with people of other cultures and see if God provides an opportunity to share a God-story. Faithfully give financially to the church, as a portion of our gifts equips missionaries to minister. Sponsor a child through the Woodside Sponsorship Program. Ask God which Short-term-mission trip He would like you to join. There are many ways that your witness can go beyond your normal circle of influence.
Has your vision of your witness been too small? Have you only thought and prayed about people close to you knowing about the treasure of God’s salvation? When God brings to your mind another country today (through the news, a conversation, or even a meal), pray that the light of salvation would shine brightly in that part of the world.
Father in Heaven, forgive me for only thinking of those who are close to me when I think of my witness. Show me how my light of witness can go beyond my circle of relationship to the ends of the earth. Amen.
