“For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.” Ephesians [2:14]-16
Salvation through Christ not only unites us with God, it brings us into the family of believers from various cultures, classes, and generations!
Companies, schools, and organizations have attempted various strategies to bring people together. Diversity training, cultural education, legislation, and policy have all sought to build a sense of “togetherness” that results in harmony and cooperation. Only the Gospel, however, connects people together at the core of their being. The Holy Spirit brings together people into one body, despite the opposition their outward diversity may nurture.
One clear example of this unity can be seen at a local church in Tel Aviv, Israel. Each week, believers from a variety of cultures—Russian, Hebrew, Palestinian, English–gather together in worship and fellowship. While the current news reports highlight the tensions between cultures, the reality of these Christ-followers is unity and mutual love for one another. The power of the presence of the Holy Spirit is clearly seen.
Have you welcomed the unity of the Spirit, and put aside racism and prejudice? Or do you find yourself devaluing people from other cultures, generations, or social classes?
God of the Nations, give me a love for my Christian family throughout the world. Create in me a burden to see Your name glorified throughout the world. Thank You for the unity of the Body of Christ. Amen.
