The Countdown Today we woke up with a bittersweet feeling because it was our last day of ministry in Rome....
The Team Has Arrived!
On Friday afternoon, the team met at the Troy campus where Pastor Tom Gitter prayed for us and commissioned us off. Our flight pattern was Detroit to Germany and then to Rome. We arrived on Saturday morning at 9am and were received by one of our missionaries on the ground, Amos. From the airport, we boarded a bus to the hotel and got settled in. Ashley and Amos briefed us on what our week of ministry would all entail, and then we departed for the refugee drop-in center. When we got there, two of their volunteers shared parts of their stories and gave us further insight on the drop-in center. Before engaging in ministry, we prayed over the center. After that, it was time to get to work! We had two groups that helped out in waves. The first group took the first 90 minutes and then the second group relieved the first for the remainder of time due to the limited space to hold all of us. We had about 30 -35 guys at the center that afternoon. Our team members had great conversations with some of them about their personal and spiritual lives. It was a great first day! After they all left, we cleaned the center, went to dinner, and went straight to bed to get some much needed rest. We believe God was moving among the refugees today and we look forward to many more days of interacting with them.
