“Let marriage be held in honor among all.” Hebrews 13:4
When I was 8 years old, my grandfather accidently gave me the Christmas gift that was intended for my older brother. I was shocked when I opened the gift and found an electric shaver. That day, I learned an important lesson. A good gift opened at the wrong time is not good.
The truth of that lesson relates when it comes to sexuality. Sexuality is a good gift from God that is intended to be experienced with only one person within the context of marriage.
The gift of sexuality was given by God in Genesis and confirmed by Jesus in Mark 10:6-9, “But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
God designed sex to be an amazing expression of love between a husband and a wife. Having sex before being married, or having sex with someone that is not your spouse dishonors and violates the precious gift. Taking the gift of sexuality outside the context marriage is sinful.
Take a moment to read and reflect on the following passages of Scripture that highlight the goodness of the gift of sexuality from Almighty God.
Ø Genesis 2:24-25
Ø Proverbs 5:18-20
Ø 1 Corinthians 7:3-5
Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of sexuality. I see and appreciate Your design for marriage. Forgive me for the ways that I have dishonored marriage in the past. Help me to live in Your grace and power to make changes that will allow me to honor marriage the way You intended. Amen.
