We could feel the cool air enter into the plane as we descended into Detroit Metro Airport. After nineteen hours...
Greetings from Sokil, Ukraine!
Our access to internet has been spotty at best, but we are so grateful to be on this trip and will send updates as we find internet access. Our long time of preparation and prayer before the trip has helped make this first day such a success! Here are some highlights of what has taken place so far:
On Sunday, we traveled to Bible and Life Church via bus to meet and worship with the local team. In the evening, we boarded a train to depart for Sokil. We arrived early Monday morning and got straight to work setting up the camp. As we entered this morning, we were welcomed and greeted by these amazing kids. The members of the team who went on the trip last year were reunited with the counselors, translators, and kids who they had missed so dearly. As for the new members of the team, it wasn’t long before they were hugging and laughing with everyone.
We led a morning warmup devotional and made crafts around the theme of Jesus being “our superhero” that died for us and was raised from the grave! There was also time spent playing games as well as teaching English lessons to the kids. The English group reviewed some vocabulary that was taught last year and challenged the kids with word searches and sentence structures. I think the entire team can agree that it went very well!
Talking with the people of Ukraine has been a humbling experience. We are blessed to see how God is working through our team of Woodsiders and Ukrainians for His glory, and ask for your continued support through prayer that these campers will be led to Christ by His Holy Spirit!
