“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter [5:10]-11
Most of us have list of movie titles in the “all-time favorites” category. These are the romantic comedies and animated classics that we’ve watched dozens of times. They’ve been played so many times in our home that we can recite lines verbatim. We anticipate the funniest moments. While we still find these favorites entertaining, humorous, or emotionally touching, the endings of these movies never change.
As Peter closes his first letter, he gives his original readers (Christians) a wider perspective on their lives and the suffering they may encounter. But, like our favorite films, we can rest in our eternal future because God’s love will never change! This should empower us to know that even through suffering, God offers His people the grace to be restored, strengthened, and established in Him!
Whatever suffering you might be experiencing today—allow Peter’s words to remind you there will be an end to your suffering, and your life will be used for God’s eternal glory!
Father, please help me to suffer well for the sake of Christ. Help me to remember that Jesus suffered on the cross to pay for my sin. Grant me a Godly perspective in my suffering that I might bring you glory. Amen.
