“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John [10:11]
Appropriate worth is established once value is placed upon something. The Hope Diamond has been housed in the National Museum of Natural History since 1958. Although the stone has a treasured history, sitting in a museum it is still just that, a stone. However, because of history and valuations of precious gemstones the Hope Diamond is said to be worth upwards of $250 million.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, called Himself the Good Shepherd. He said that He lays His life down for the sheep. Jesus did just that on the cross, sacrificing His sinless life in exchange for the sin-filled lives of believers. By dying for us, Jesus placed an incredibly high value on sinful men and women like us. In fact, no higher price or valuation has ever been recorded! Because the valuable life of Jesus was given for you—you should never lose sight of your worth in God’s eyes.
Through the cross, believers can rightly appropriate our worth. We are worth so much that Jesus paid the ultimate price to redeem us to Himself. He did this to give us an eternity with Him!
Heavenly Father, remove the aperture from my eyes so that I might fully focus on your kindness and upon your glory. Jesus, thank you for sacrificing your life so that I might have eternal life. Holy Spirit, empower me to know my true worth and my value. Amen
