“…to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:4-5
Many technology companies today design products with “planned obsolescence”. This is the practice of designing products that rapidly become obsolete and need to be replaced. We see this with products like the iPhone. Each year a newly designed iPhone hits the market with new functions and features that promise to make life better while make last year’s model less desirable.
Let’s be honest it can be overwhelming and exhausting living in a world where we are constantly trying to keep up with the latest and greatest technology that promises to simplify our lives. It’s also frustrating when these products break or don’t work like there are supposed to.
Today we are reminded in the passage that though this world is marked by brokenness and decay, the inheritance that awaits believers is safe, secure, and satisfying! The inheritance of heaven is “…imperishable, undefiled, and unfading…” so it doesn’t become obsolete. It never breaks or becomes out of date. It is everlasting. This inheritance is guarded by God himself!
Are you finding frustration with the world around you? If so, take some time to reflect on the inheritance that awaits you with God in heaven. Then live today rejoicing and praising God for what he has secured for all who believe.
God, thank you for securing an inheritance for me in heaven. Help me to respond to living in this broken world with praise to you and not frustration. May I rejoice in what awaits me. Amen.
