“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith…may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:6-7
Several years ago, I decided that I needed to get back into shape. I started going to the gym every day. After several days my muscles were so sore that I could hardly get out of the bed! I wondered what in the world was going on. I thought working out was supposed to be good for me? How could something good possibly be so painful?
After a little research I learned that when you lift weights your muscles actually experience micro-tears which cause the pain and soreness. When your body heals these small tears, the muscle grows back bigger and stronger than before. So, the popular phrase “no pain on gain” is actually true.
A similar phenomena happens in the Christian life. Throughout our life we go through various trials and suffering. God allows us to go through the pain so that our faith in Him is strengthened. When we walk through the trials and sufferings we learn to lean in and depend upon Jesus who strengths and sustains us.
Believer, be encouraged today because the suffering you are walking through is only temporary. God is working through the pain to produce faith. Therefore, choose to respond to the pain with praise because God has you.
God, you know what battles and trials I’m facing. Thank you for helping me grow in faith. Thank you for not leaving me. Help me to praise you as I walk through this pain. Amen.
