“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalm 34:8
What is your favorite thing to eat? What is the tastiest food you’ve ever experienced?
Many people’s favorite dish would land in the savory category, while others dream of decadent sweet goods. Umami has its merits as well. And I’d be surprised if anyone answered with foods in the final two basic food tastes—sour or bitter. It may have been your mother’s recipe, or a fine dining event, but when you’ve experienced a taste that is truly good, you’re forever drawn back to its taste.
Like a favorite dish, when a soul experiences the goodness of personal rescue through Jesus—we want more! It provides a flavor profile for our souls that we cannot resist. We want seconds and thirds and a life spent hanging on the joy of salvation.
Like the psalmist, the Apostle Peter knew that experiencing refuge and redemption in Jesus was only the starting point. Having tasted new life in Christ Jesus there was a new drive and a new motivation for living. This changes everything! (1 Peter 2:3)
Have you ever tasted the goodness of the Lord? Have you experienced His Sovereign provision? How does it affect you? Savor these flavors of God’s goodness!
Lord, I have seen your kindness and your grace. I am blessed to find rescue in the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus. Help me to express the response you deserve. Empower me to live in the goodness I know in you. Amen.
