“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession…” 1 Peter 2:9
A few months ago, we sold a vehicle. It was a small SUV that my wife had grown to love. She enjoyed this quick, nimble, stylish vehicle and was a bit sad to see it go. However, we needed to sell it because it didn’t fit the needs of our family. In its place we purchased a minivan. (Yes, we know that our cool factor took a serious hit!)
Today, our new-to-us minivan rests comfortably in our garage. It’s already been used for a couple family trips, and the day-to-day duties of a traditional family hauler. Our van is our possession and we use it for our purposes.
As believers, we have been chosen by God to be His holy possession. We didn’t earn our place among God’s chosen race. We didn’t ask to become part of God’s priesthood. Are actions don’t make us worthy of becoming a holy nation. We were selected by God to carry out His Kingdom-building purposes in the world today.
Through the payment of His Son, Jesus, on the Cross, Almighty God chose you to be part of His family. He chose you for His purposes. He chose you and gave you the privilege of serving Him.
May we serve Him humbly.
Lord, thank you for choosing me to be part of your chosen race, your royal priesthood, your holy nation. I am humbled to be your possession—used for your kingdom purposes. May I always be mindful that you chose me to be part of your family. Amen.
