“…that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
I like Americana music. It’s part rock/part folk with an emphasis on strong songwriting. I enjoy it so much that in my spare time I like to find unknown Americana artists and compile playlists of their music on Spotify. Then I send these playlists to my family and friends. I take great joy in telling others about new and under-appreciated music that I’ve found!
I am not alone in the practice of sharing. Entire social media platforms are built upon the practice of sharing a great decorating idea or a tasty recipe. Telling our friends about something that we enjoy is a regular part of our culture today.
Peter explains that this practice is something that should be a normal activity for Christ followers who have been chosen by Almighty God. Men, women, and children who have been called to faith in Jesus by God should desire to tell others about the joy and peace that we have found.
Is this a consistent part of your faith journey? Do you regularly tell other about the goodness of God? Do you help others see how God has changed your life? Peter exhorts believers to proclaim the goodness and greatness of God, and what He has done. You have an amazing story to tell—go tell others!
Lord, thank you for choosing me. Because of what your Son, Jesus, did for me, I have new life. May I have the courage to tell others about you, your goodness, and how you’ve changed my life. Amen.
