“…I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.” Genesis 12:2
I like to wash my car. I simply grab a bucket, some mild soap, a wash mitt, and I’ve got all I need to have an enjoyable experience making my vehicle shine.
Actually, that’s not entirely accurate. I also need a hose, attached to a water spicket, to make the car-washing experience work.
If I do not have a flowing source of water, the bucket stays empty, the soap doesn’t foam, and the wash mitt stays dry. I need clean water to flow for any of the other items to be effective.
Our lives are a bit like the water hose. God has chosen to bless His people so that we would be a free-flowing source of blessing to our world. Whatever God’s people are involved with—school, business, civic groups, politics, sports—should all be better because we’re involved. This is not due to our amazing skill or insight, but because God has designed it this way. He has chosen to bless His people so that we would be a source of blessing to others.
As God’s chosen people, we are called not to soak up the blessings of God and keep them to ourselves. Instead, God has showered us with blessings so that His blessings might flow freely to others.
How might God use you to bless someone today?
Father, may I never take for granted the blessing that you have given me in Jesus, and may I live in such a way that my life is a blessing to others. Amen.
