“Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable…” 1 Peter [2:11]-12
Have you ever heard the famous quote, “Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary,” of St. Francis of Assisi? One problem—there is no record of St. Francis ever saying those words.
And as believers, we know those words aren’t true—we must speak! In his letter to the Romans ([10:14]), the Apostle Paul declares, “And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?”
It can be so easy to forget that before we speak the Gospel, our very lives serve as a witness. Moment-by-moment and day-by-day, our lives have the opportunity to show our faith in Jesus. From how we handle ourselves on social media, to the way we act as an employee or employer. From the way we handle relational struggles, to the way we handle a tense political climate. Our lives reveal what we believe about Jesus.
The world has thrown adversity at you. How have you handled it? This is the perfect time to bring your life into alignment with the Lord.
Heavenly Father, I confess that living my faith each day is not easy. Empower me through the Holy Spirit to live out my faith amidst the trials. May my life represent you faithfully each day. Amen.
