“Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.” 1 Peter [2:11]-12
Have you ever visited Mackinac Island? It’s incredible! Since the 1700s, horses have been right in the middle of the action on the island (Although, not the same horses, of course!) Even though the horses have now been joined by wagons, bicycles and flocks of tourist they remain a centerpiece of activity on the island.
One thing that is noticeable about the horses is that they all wear blinders. This helps their focus by reducing distractions to their left or right. Truth is; blinders might help Christians live more Godly lives in our temptation-filled world.
One of the greatest ways we can live out our faith in practical ways is by not allowing the distractions of the world to negatively impact our faith in Christ. We should forget what is behind, look beyond the things on our left and right, and instead strain forward to what lies ahead.
How have you been handling the noise of the world? Have distractions become a problem in your life? Perhaps today is the perfect opportunity to re-focus on Jesus—the author and perfecter of our faith.
Father, help me overcome the distractions that I face in my life. May I keep my eyes focused on Jesus and not on the things of this world. May my life to be a strong witness of the Gospel. Amen.
