JUNE 2024
WEEK FOUR

Preteen

Joy is choosing to celebrate
what God is doing.

Bible Story

Joy in the Psalms
Psalms 8, 16, and 19

When is it hard to find joy?

MEMORY VERSE

“A cheerful heart makes you healthy. But a broken spirit dries you up.”

Proverbs 17:22, NIrV

Engagement Questions

  • When is it hard to find joy?
  • Do you think we can be joyful even when we don’t feel happy? Why or why not?
  • What’s the best way to change an unhappy attitude to a joyful one?

Prayer

“Dear God, thank You for the wonderful gift of our senses. Help us to find joy in the unique and beautiful things we see around us every day. Open our eyes to the wonders of Your creation and the people You have made. Help us to see the good even in challenging situations. Teach us to use our senses to find joy in the simple moments of life. We love You and we pray these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

ENGAGE IN EVERYDAY MOMENTS TOGETHER

Morning Time

As your kid starts their day, tell them something good they did or said lately—something they may not realize you noticed.

Drive Time

While on the go, ask your kid: “What are some things you see while we’re on the go that you are thankful for?” (Maybe it’s the park or an ice cream shop.)

Meal Time

At a meal this week, have everyone at the table answer this question: “When is it hard to find joy?”

Bed Time

Pray for each other: “God, open our eyes to see joy when life doesn’t feel very joyful.”
